The Hudson Valley Boomerang

Issue #51: March 1983

The massive boomerang-shaped craft that first appeared over New York’s Hudson Valley on New Year’s Eve has returned repeatedly throughout the winter months. Thousands of witnesses have now observed the object, making this one of the largest UFO waves in American history.

The Pattern Continues

Since our initial report in Issue #49, sightings have continued at a remarkable pace:

January 1983: Multiple observations throughout Westchester and Putnam counties. Police departments received hundreds of calls.

February 1983: The object appeared over Yorktown Heights on multiple evenings, observed by residents, police officers, and motorists on major highways.

March 1983: Sightings spread to Connecticut. The Taconic State Parkway became a favoured observation point, with drivers stopping to watch the object’s passage.

The witnesses now number in the thousands. Their descriptions remain consistent: an enormous V-shaped or boomerang-shaped craft, covered in multicoloured lights, moving silently at low speed.

New Observations

Additional details have emerged from recent sightings:

Apparent Hovering: On several occasions, the object has been observed hovering motionlessly above specific locations for extended periods. One witness reported watching the object remain stationary above a reservoir for over an hour.

Light Patterns: The lights on the craft appear to be individually controlled. They pulse, change colour, and move in patterns that suggest deliberate signalling.

Size Confirmation: Witnesses who observed the object pass directly overhead have provided more reliable size estimates. The craft appears to be between three hundred and one thousand feet across, depending on the sighting.

Reaction to Aircraft: On at least one occasion, when a conventional aircraft approached the object, the craft’s lights extinguished. It became invisible against the night sky. When the aircraft departed, the lights reappeared.

The Investigation

Researchers have begun systematic investigation of the sightings:

Dr. J. Allen Hynek, the astronomer who once debunked UFO sightings for the US Air Force and later became a believer, has expressed interest in the Hudson Valley events.

Local investigators have collected hundreds of witness reports and are mapping the object’s apparent flight paths.

Radar data has been requested from airports and military installations in the area, though no responses have been received.

Official Silence

Official sources remain silent. The Federal Aviation Administration has not commented on the sightings. The US Air Force has made no statement. Local authorities have acknowledged the volume of reports but offered no explanation.

The silence is itself remarkable. Thousands of citizens are reporting an unexplained aerial phenomenon, and no official agency will address their concerns.

The Ultralight Theory

One explanation has been proposed: that the sightings represent ultralight aircraft flying in formation. Attached lights would create the appearance of a single large object.

This theory has been embraced by some sceptics but faces serious objections:

The ultralight theory explains some observations but fails to account for others.

What Is It?

Three months of sightings have brought us no closer to identification. The object continues to appear, to hover, to traverse the valley, and to vanish.

Its behaviour suggests intelligence. It responds to approaching aircraft. It revisits certain locations. It seems curious about the communities over which it flies.

But it does not land. It does not communicate. It simply watches.

The Hudson Valley has become an open-air laboratory for the study of unexplained aerial phenomena. Whatever is happening there, it is happening in full view of thousands of witnesses.

The investigation continues.

Witnesses are urgently encouraged to contact our research department with their observations.
